wesgpt is run by me, Wesley Kamau. I answer every question myself. Here’s what the site keeps, who can see it, and how to get rid of it. Short version: no AI, no ads, nothing sold.

What it keeps

  • Your questions and my answers. The text, any images, when each was sent, whether the chat is public or private, and a title taken from your first message.
  • Images you attach. Photos are re-encoded in your browser before they upload, which strips hidden metadata like location. GIFs upload as they are.
  • A random key on your device. There are no accounts. Your browser makes a random key and keeps it in local storage; the server only stores a scrambled (hashed) version, so it can tell which chats are yours. If you clear your browser data, that link to your chats is gone.
  • Notifications, if you turn them on. The push address your browser gives the site, used only to tell you when I reply. Turning notifications off deletes it.
  • Flood limits. To stop spam, the server counts messages and uploads per network. Your IP address is only stored as a keyed hash that can’t be read back.
  • Live presence. While a chat is open, I can see that someone is there and when they’re typing, but not what they type until they send it. Anyone reading a public chat sees my answer as I type it.
  • Hosting logs and analytics. Vercel keeps standard request logs (IP address, browser, page) for a short time, and the site uses Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights, which count visits without cookies.

Who can see your chats

  • Public (the default): anyone with the link. Once I answer, the chat is also listed on the wesgpt home page.
  • Private: only you, on the device you asked from, and me.
  • I can read every chat, public or private, since I’m the one answering. You can switch a chat between public and private from its ⋯ menu at any time.

No AI

Your messages are never sent to an AI model or used to train one. Every answer is typed by me.

Services that handle it

These run parts of the site for me and only get what they need to do that job:

  • MongoDB Atlas: the database for chats.
  • Cloudflare R2: image storage.
  • Ably: live typing and presence.
  • Apple, Google and Mozilla push services: deliver notifications to devices that turned them on.
  • Vercel: hosting, logs and analytics.

What it doesn’t do

  • No selling, renting or sharing your data for ads or marketing.
  • No tracking you across other sites.
  • No cookies for visitors.

Keeping and deleting

  • Chats stay until you delete them or I do. Deleting a chat (⋯ → Delete chat) removes its messages and images.
  • Lost access to a chat, or want something removed? Email wesley@wesleykamau.com with the chat’s link and I’ll delete it within 7 days.

Kids

wesgpt isn’t meant for children under 13, and I don’t knowingly keep their data.
